International Symposium: "Approaches for the History of the Berber Language : Putting into Perspective a Language through the Ages" Tunis, May 26-28, 2022

|   Event

The studies around the Berber language have made significant progress around themes that would benefit from conquering the scientific field. They are quite diverse in the course of the history of North Africa. Thus, several approaches have been examined within a spectrum of disciplines in the humanities and auxiliary sciences that reconcile fields like Linguistics, Philology, Archaeology, Ancient and Medieval History, Anthropology, and Population Genetics. This symposium will bring together some of the most prestigious Tunisian, French and Algerian institutions, including the University of Tunis, the Medieval Arab-Islamic World Laboratory, the North Paris House of Human Sciences (MSH Paris Nord), and its supervisory bodies, namely: CNRS, University of Paris 8, and University of Sorbonne Paris Nord, and the scientific laboratory of Languages and Cultures of Oral Tradition (LACITO, UMR 7109: CNRS / INALCO /Paris 3 Sorbonne New University) as well as the General Delegation for the French Language and Languages of France (DGLFLF). This meeting is the fruit of a partnership between the Agency for the Development of Heritage and Cultural Promotion (AMVPPC), the National Library of Tunisia (BnT), the National Heritage Institute (INP) and the Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts, known as Beit al-Hikma. This collaboration between several institutions has then been extended by other entities such as the French Institute of Tunisia (Tunis), the Center for Maghrebian Studies in Algeria of Oran (CEMA), and the Merian Centre for Advanced Studies in the Maghreb (MECAM). We are confident that this cross-disciplinary project, which is the fruit of multilateral cooperation, will fulfill all its promises for the sake of research and heritage valorization.
